Captain Marvel is going to be Marvel’s next top priority and we’re already hearing about it’s potential lead, as reported by Variety Oscar Winner Brie Larson is the frontrunner to play lead Carol Danvers.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter is adding it’s own two-cents, as they claim that The Babadook director Jennifer Kent and Whale Rider director Niki Caro are two names in the mix to helm the solo film.

Marvel has been on the hunt for a female director to helm this most female-centric of their properties with names like Niki Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland, USA) and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) surfacing as contenders, according to sources.

This is actually the first time a major trade as chimed-in about the directing candidates, as it’s been mostly been left to tabloids and rumors, it’s the first round of concrete information we’ve had so far.
