Actor Jeremy Irons is staying in the superhero world a little while longer with news that the actor has signed on to a lead role in the upcoming HBO series set in the world of Watchmen.

According to Variety, the actor will join previous announced cast members Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson and more in the pilot of the series produced by Damon Lindelof. Details of Irons’ role have not been revealed.

Jeremy Irons is no stranger to cable television spending three years as the lead in the series The Borgias and is no stranger to the world of comic books after playing Batman’s butler Alfred Pennyworth in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Before speculation begins on who Irons will be playing in the series, Lindelof did let fans know in a letter he wrote; “Some of the characters will be unknown,” Lindelof wrote. “New faces. New masks to cover them. We also intend to revisit the past century of Costumed Adventuring through a surprising yet familiar set of eyes…and it is here we will be taking our greatest risks.”

The Watchmen pilot is currently in production. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
