Jessica Chastain A Great Candidate For HELA In ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Marvel has been setting-up the next Thor villain in Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron, it’s starting to look like we will indeed end-up seeing Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. Her realm Hel is referenced in Dark World, along with being shown in Ultron and it’s population revealed via concept art. I mentioned a group of strong candidates that I’d love to see in the role, which may or may not be combination of Hela and Amora The Enchantress to combat confusion with WB’s Enchantress in Suicide Squad. Along with skipping over the part about Hela being the daughter of Loki, which might be a bit hard to explain in the cinematic universe, combining the two seems like a good bet.

Amora Goddess of Death has a nice ring to it, if you ask me.

There’s another actress I’d like to include on that wish-list, and that is two time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, The Help, Mama, Zero Dark Thirty, Crimson Peak, The Huntsman, Tree of Life). She’s already been linked for a couple of Marvel Studios roles with Iron Man 3, Ant-Man, and even possibly Captain Marvel. Jessica has been vocal about a desire to join a superhero film in the past, and revealed to MTV she wants a very meaty role either a villain or a superhero with powers, not a civilian.

“We’ve talked about aligning our forces in the future,” Chastain said. “And here’s the thing with me… If you’re going to be in a superhero movie, you only get one chance. You’re that character forever. So why do a superhero movie and play the boring civilian?”

“Whatever it is, I want a fight scene,” Chastain continued. “I could be an incredible villain. I could be a hero. I want a cool outfit, and I want to kick ass.”

She would make an excellent villain and Hela does wear one of the more elaborate costumes in the MCU, also has the kinds of superpowers that would be attractive to Chastain who seems to be interested in ghostly roles recently. Her power over the realm of the dead and her own army made of up demonic forces seems like a meaty enough role to me.

If a Hela/Amora combo becomes a reoccurring villainess like we suspect this could be perfect casting, considering that she’s already worked with Loki‘s Tom Hiddleston in Crimson Peak, where she might be playing the antagonist. She is currently working alongside Thor himself Chris Hemsworth in The Huntsman that has already started production.

Thor: Ragnarok comes out November 2017.
