Jessica Chastain Open To ‘Gotham City Sirens’ Poison Ivy; Role Needs To Be Strong and Dynamic

Mar 27, 2017

Jessica Chastain (The Martian, Zero Dark Thirty) has been flirting with comic book roles for ages, she almost joined the casts of Ant-Man and Iron Man 3. She had also mentioned a possible interest in playing either a hero or villain as long as the role had some depth to it, along with badass action scenes and a cool costume.

While speaking with CinemaBlend, she revealed after being asked that if Gotham City Siren‘s Poison Ivy is a dynamic enough role she’d be interested in it.

“I’m interested in all things where the characters are strong and dynamic, and not stereotypes or objects. I like female characters that are subjects, not objects. And so, if Poison Ivy happens to be that, sure. Throw my hat in the ring.”

Harley Quinn’s Margot Robbie and director David Ayer are confirmed for the Suicide Squad spin-off film. Ayer has suggested other roles include Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and possibly Black Mask. Despite rumors, casting for the film hasn’t begun as confirmed by trades, so roles are likely all up for grabs.

Reports have suggested that production on Gotham City Sirens is expected to take place this year with a release date being eyed for 2018.
