What was your first Cosplay Experience?
When I was living in Long Beach, I was watching this show called The Guild and the characters went to a convention called Megagame-o-ramacon which was filmed at the Long Beach Convention Center. I did some research and discovered the Long Beach Comic Con was actually going on the next weekend. I bought weekend passes and the first day I came in regular clothes and saw so many people in costume that I went home and changed into an old Supergirl Halloween costume. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked on cosplaying!

How long have you been Cosplaying?
The first time cosplaying was at the Long Beach Comic Con in 2011. I first went into LBCC dressed in casual clothes and remembered I had an old Halloween costume of Supergirl in my closet. I went home, changed, and the con experience was taken to another level. The rest is history  I wore it to several conventions after that (Comikaze and Wondercon.) My first time at San Diego Comic Con is when I started branching out to different cosplays. Since then I have met many talented cosplayers, seamstresses, and prop makers that have all made cosplaying way more fun and easier.

Who or What inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
I was inspired by seeing other cosplayers being able to become their favorite characters really made me want to do the same. Always seeing the amazing cosplays from SDCC in the newspapers, it was on my bucket list to attend and to dress up like that. This year at SDCC 2014, I entered the Masquerade with Petite Leon’s group and we won tickets for next year! Definitely a dream came true for me!

If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn or see someone else where
What would it be?
My favorite cosplay has got to be the Lady Gambit that Castle Corsetry made for me. Watching the cartoons growing up, Gambit has always been my favorite X-men. Being able to cosplay him has been the best feeling. Also I recently visited New Orleans where Gambit is from and I fell in love with all the Cajun food which helped me appreciate Remy Lebeau/Gambit the character and where he came from.

If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
I would be Emma Frost in her diamond form or I would be a transforming Bumblebee from Transformer- the kind where if you crouch down, you become a car. That seems like such a fun cosplay to do!

What advice would you offer others who are aspiring Cosplayers?
Do cosplay for yourself and not for other’s approval. I know a lot of people who get down on themselves because of criticism from others. There are also a lot of “who wore it better” cosplay comparisons. Whether your cosplay is pieced together from articles from your own closet, bought, or created like an uncanny replica of the original- it’s the feeling you get when you take on another character. Have fun with it!

At an early age I knew I loved two things more than anything else Comic Books and Video Games and no matter how hard my parents tried they couldn't keep me away from the capes and pixels. Now that I have a wife and child of my own I can't wait to share these vast worlds and experiences with them and hopefully you! With GWW I created and become editor of the comics section, which has now become the websites most popular area and features daily post with unique Comic editorials, reviews and previews. Along with Will Elizondo we started the GWW Capes Crew podcast. A weekly show dedicated to to all things Comics, Superheros and Sequential Art. After a year of creating content for GWW I was made its Editor in Chief. I love everything I do and can't think of a better way to spend my time than to spread every form of geekery to every corner of the globe. Comics will all be my passion though and were my heart lies.
