Joaquin Phoenix In Talks For ‘Joker’ Movie – Set In 80s

Feb 8, 2018

It was reported a while back that Warner Bros. and Todd Phillips were teaming up to give DC fans a second version of a modern Joker and taking place outside the mainstream DC cinematic universe, which has Jared Leto in the role. The film was expected to explore the origin of this new Joker.

Leonardo DiCaprio was originally linked but it seems unlikely he’ll be doing it.

Now, Variety reports that former Bruce Banner and Doctor Strange candidate Joaquin Phoenix is now in talks for the titular role of the clown gangster king of Gotham City. The Oscar-winner had been courted by Marvel previously but couldn’t make it work, it remains to be seen of WB can do any better.

They also claim the gritty crime film will take place in the 1980s.

Phillips will direct and co-write with Scott Silver but when it’ll shooting and be released is currently unknown.
