‘John Wick: Chapter 3’ Production Confirmed To Return To Montreal

Mar 6, 2018

Omega Underground can now confirm that production on John Wick: Chapter 3 will be returning to Montreal and while filming there will be using the working title Alpha Cop (previously reported by us).

Montreal was used in John Wick: Chapter 2, doubling for New York City, which is also expected to see some scenes filmed there as well.

Other potential filming locales include Russia and Spain.

We recently revealed that Wick 3 was looking at filming scenes in Morocco and Jordan, which could hint to seeing these places double for Jerusalem (a city Keanu mentioned the third film could venture to along with Tokyo).

It’s been reported by ThatHashtagShow that Japanese action star Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, Westworld, The Last Samurai) would be playing the film’s villain. Which we assume will be Yakuza and or a member of the High Table.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that they can find a way to get Charlize Theron in Chapter 3.

Reeves had mentioned that he’d like to see his Constantine co-star Tilda Swinton reunite on the sequel, so he’s obviously open to the idea of bringing in actors he’s worked with in the past. His Matrix co-star Laurence Fishburne is a perfect example of this.

There had been a desire from action fans to see some sort of Wick/Atomic crossover but due to the films being set in vastly different time periods (30 year difference) and at different studios, it makes things a little tricky.

Unless, they just give Theron a part and apparently there is a new female role in the film according to ThatHashtagShow (didn’t mention any names). However, mentioned they were seek an actress in their 20-40s (Theron is 42).

Keanu and Charlize have kept up a friendship for over 20 years since working on The Devil’s Advocate and Sweet November. The pair already have a John Wick connection as Wick co-director David Leitch directed her in Atomic Blonde and while the two were preparing for Atomic/Wick 2 they trained at the same facility.

Theron actually just shot a film in Montreal herself with Jonathan Levine‘s comedy Flarsky co-starring Seth Rogen which wrapped in January. Flarsky just happens to be at Lionsgate as they picked up the worldwide rights last year.

Outside of signing up for Universal’s CIA thriller Need To Know last year, it seems she has an opening in her schedule this spring/summer. In theory, it could work.

John Wick: Chapter 3 is expected to begin filming on April 26th and Lionsgate has given it the release date of May 17th, 2019.
