Johnny Deep Plays A Real-Life Gangster In ‘Black Mass’ Trailer

Apr 23, 2015

Black Mass is set In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Scott Cooper’s gangster flick Black Mass. The film stars Johnny Depp, Sienna Miller, Kevin Bacon, Juno Temple, Joel Edgerton, Rory Cochrane, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Dakota Johnson, Corey Stoll and Adam Scott.

There’s some people out there that believe Depp really needs to give a good performance here after a terrible track record of roles over the last five or so years. Let’s be honest, Depp has been walking through his last ten or so movies. Bulger was the inspiration for Jack Nicholson’s character in The Departed, so you kind of get an idea of how gritty this Boston crime saga could be.
