Johnny Depp Playing ‘The Invisible Man’ In Universal’s Reboot

Feb 10, 2016

Tom Cruise was recently hired as the lead in Alex Kurtzman’s Mummy reboot. There’s now another addition to the Universal’s Monster Cinematic Universe.

Deadline has word that Johnny Depp has been tapped to play The Invisible Man in a new remake, which currently doesn’t have a director. Kurtzman and Chris Morgan have apparently been involved with the project’s script. We’ve previously seen directors John Carpenter and Paul Verhoeven tackle the material based on H.G. Wells’ novel, and even saw a Wells’ Victorian version of the character in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Scarlett Johansson had previously been linked for the human lead in their Creature From The Black Lagoon reboot as well.

It’s shaping up to be an interesting casting collective, but will these movies end-up turn out to be good? That’s another thing entirely.
