Karl Urban Confirms Longstanding Rumor Alex Garland Directed ‘Dredd’

Mar 7, 2018

We are taken-back how Karl Urban has just confirmed to JoBlo a huge longstanding rumor concerning Dredd‘s troubled filming and post-production process. Urban confirming that writer-producer Alex Garland (Annihilation, Ex Machina) indeed was the one who actually directed the final film.

“A huge part of the success of DREDD is in fact due to Alex Garland and what a lot of people don’t realize is that Alex Garland actually directed that movie.”

There had been chatter that director Pete Travis was removed from the film and barred from the editing room with Garland taking over directing/editing duties. This tidbit seemingly supports that talk.

Karl also suggests that he’s still in open talks to reprise the judge Dredd role in the series Mega-City One.

“The rights holders [Producer Brian Jenkins and Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley ] are in their process of developing their show called Mega City One and we’ve had many discussions and the ball’s in their court. Hopefully, they get it together and are able to deliver more of what the audience wants and it would certainly be a privilege and a pleasure to be a part of it.”
