Karl Urban is about to begin production on Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok in July, but he’s doing a couple of Comic Cons before that. While at the Denver Comic Con (via Science Fiction as pointed out by Heroic Hollywood) he revealed that Dredd 2 is now indeed in development.
At his panel at Denver Comic Con, when asked a rather snidely worded question about if he would do a sequel to ‘Dredd’ even if it was poorly written just for the money, Karl Urban revealed some very interesting information for fans.
Well, after he quipped that he did need a new house, he revealed the information:
Yes. ‘Dredd 2′ is in development.
You heard that right. Or at least, they are developing the story for it.
A campaign was created/headed-up by the rights holders 2000 AD and Karl himself to have platforms like Netflix, Amazon, or HBO to pick up the sequel, be it another film or TV series. It’ll be interesting to learn if Alex Garland will be back as the writer, or if they’ll have other creatives involved.
There’s no word on who is actually developing this sequel, but as far was we know both Karl Ubran and Olivia Thirlby have agreed to be apart of it.
UPDATE: 2000 AD seemingly is refuting the article and or quote.
@mixta110 Yes, the article is inaccurate, I’m afraid.
