Kathryn Bigelow’s Next Film Will Focus On American POW Bowe Bergdahl

Mar 9, 2015

Deadline is reporting that the next feature film from badass Oscar winning director Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty, Point Break, Hurt Locker) will be a movie based on the real-life story American soldier and POW Bowe Bergdhal.

Screen shot 2015-03-07 at 7.24.20 PM

The Army sergeant captured by the Taliban and held prisoner for five years after he left his base in Afghanistan.

This new project stems from Kathryn’s South American drug-trafficking flick Triple Frontier being stalled, leaving Kathryn time to pursue other projects like this new film.

Mark Boal will script this untitled feature as well, Boal previously working with Bigelow on Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty and Triple Frontier. Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures who produced Zero Dark Thirty is also on board for the film.

After the widely successful box office take from American Sniper which is now the highest grossing 2014 release domestically. I’m sure studios will be fighting-over this project since it will likely be both commercially viable and awards bait, if the right cast is assembled.

Are you as excited as I am to see Bigelow’s next film?
