What was your first Cosplay Experience?
Minus all of my anime Halloween costumes from childhood? My first cosplay was for Youmacon in 2005 where I wore a Tomoyo cosplay and carried around a 1990’s video camera. I used an old cheerleading skirt from my high school and my mother made the uniform top and hat for me. It was silly and a lot of fun!

How long have you been Cosplaying?
10 years now! Wow!

Who or What inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
I just really wanted to BE my favorite characters! I had a friend make my costumes for me while I was in college and I learned bits and pieces of crafting from her. When she graduated and moved away, I started teaching myself to sew and craft. I love transforming into a completely different person for a little while!

If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn or have seen someone else wear, what would it be?
I don’t think you know how heavy of a question that is…. One of my favorite costumers would be JoEllen of Firefly Path, Cathy from GodSaveTheQueen, and Naraku Brock for their completely insane craftsmanship skills. These people inspire me the most to better my own skills!

If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
Another loaded question! I have a taste for extreme embellishment. I’d love to create Glinda’s bubble dress from the Broadway musical Wicked. I also have been dreaming about making some of the designs from an artist on DeviantArt called Zeiva. I’ve wanted to make the collection of elements for pretty much the last 10 years.

What advice would you offer others who are aspiring Cosplayers?
Google is your best friend. It is great for getting started to find resources. There are tutorials for practically everything these days, all you have to do is Google it! Even if you don’t know what the correct terminology is. I’ve written descriptions of what I’m trying to do into the search engine and I can usually find the terminology I’m looking for in the first few hits. From there I narrow down my search. So it’s totally okay not to know how to do things, because you can RESEARCH it!! 😀 Knowledge is power!
