Kurt Russell Eyed For Star-Lord’s Father In ‘Guardians of The Galaxy 2’
The Wrap has word that Snake Plissken himself Kurt Russell, who’ll be leading Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight this holiday season is said to be wanted for the role of Peter Quill’s dad in James Gunn’s Guardians of The Galaxy 2.
However, no official offer has been made.
Russell is known for his badass/gruff roles in films like Escape From New York, The Thing, Tombstone, Death Proof, Big Trouble In Little China and Stargate. This kind of casting would of course peak the interest of film geeks, not unlike when Robert Redford joined Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Kurt also had a supporting role in the billion dollar hit, The Fast and Furious 7 co-starring with Vin Diesel who voices Groot, which should help him land big tentpole roles like this.
Russell pretty much played an 80’s Star-Lord in Big Trouble In Little China, so it’s the best kind of casting.
While who ends up Quill’s father remains to be see, as Gunn has debunked rumors that included Thanos, Adam Warlock, Starfox, Yondu, and Mar-Vell being his daddy.
My own guess is now pointing towards obscure god-like hero Ikarus from the Jack Kirby comic The Eternals. The ancient race just happens to be a long living off-shoot of humans like the Inhumans, and Thanos just happens to be one of them.
