Legendary Pictures Closing In On A ‘Pokemon’ Live-Action Movie Deal

Jul 13, 2016

Back in April news arouse that several movie studios were in a bidding war for Nintendo’s Pokemon property. This would be to develop the long running video game and anime series into a live-action feature film. However, news on the project died down until last week when the launch of Pokemon Go mobile app started sweeping the nation then the world! After the launch of the app Nintendo’s stock shot up 25% nearing $9 Billion dollars. So of course studios once again started negotiating with Nintendo on a possible movie deal.

No deal has been finalized yet but Legendary Pictures is the frontrunner to own the rights. It has even been rumored that they want to tap Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis to pen the script. Landis also penned a 400+ page Super Mario Brothers screenplay for fun several years ago; which he released online just last year. He also wrote last years American Ultra and Victor Frankenstein. The writer several hours after this story broke even went onto make some “ironic” sarcastic tweets towards other failed anime live-action films like Dragonball: Evolution and The Last Airender.

If a live-action film was every brought to light lets hope that the studio follows the video game adventures of Red, his rival Blue and his mission to take down the terrorist organization Team Rocket. Not the anime which follows Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town still trying to beat the Elite Four…20 years later.
