Today, was Day 1 of San Diego Comic-Con in California. Not much was going on in forms of panels. However, while the 20th Century Fox panel was a massive disappointment (they didn’t feature any X-Men news). During FX’s Legion panel showrunner Noah Hawley (Fargo) revealed that he is currently developing a Doctor Doom solo film with Fox:
“I’ll just say two words. The first one is Doctor and the next one is Doom,”
According to The Hollywood Reporter Hawley is writing the script with an eye to possibly direct the picture.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Hawley is developing a feature project centering around one of Marvel Comics’ most recognizable villains with an eye to direct.
Fox has been looking to reboot and re-imagine the franchise after the lackluster performance of the 2015 outing, and another Fantastic Four movie would just not do, so the studio is looking at various angles.
Considering the terrible box office performance and reception of the last film it’s most likely 20th Century Fox would hand over the creative reigns to Noah. We’re indeed possibly looking the third incarnation of Doom here with a second reboot.
Doom is indeed a flawed and complex villain, while also the ruler of the nation of Latveria. It remains to be seen what this film will end up looking like, also if they’ll attempt to include a third version of the Fantastic Four or just make it Doom centric.
Victor Von Doom (aka Doctor Doom) is a scientific genius and totalitarian ruler of the fictional country of Latveria. He wears a metal mask to hide his disfigured face and rules his land with an iron fist.
The project is only in development phases at the moment and it’s unknown what will actually become of it. However, it’s a good first sign with Hawley now involved.
