Lily James Eyed For Role Alongside Ansel Elgort In Edgar Wright’s ‘Baby Driver’

May 8, 2015

British actress Lily James is in talks to take a co-lead role alongside Ansel Elgort in Edgar Wright‘s action ramp Baby Driver according to Variety. James recently starred in Disney’s live-action retelling of Cinderella which was a rather large hit for the studio, earning over $500 million on a budget of $95 million making it a hit for Disney. Elgort become a breakout star last year thanks to his role in Fault In Our Stars, he was also a fan-favorite to play the new Spider-Man but seemingly was never in the running.

A young, talented getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best. After being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

The project which is not connected to the Cornetto Trilogy has been in the works for ages, and had been in contention to be made before Edgar chose to make The World’s End and Ant-Man his next features, of course only one of those films got made with him. Wright would eventually have his name linked for projects like Star Trek 3 and Sony’s Spider-Man reboot after his exit from Ant-Man, but seemingly wants to make something original first. Edgar has mentioned in the past that Baby Driver being more of a straight-up action film, and will be relying a little less of it’s focus on comedy. I assume taking cues from genre classics like Lethal Weapon and Point Break, which the director has some serious affection for.
