Lucasfilm Reaffirms Josh Trank As ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Director; Will Appear At Celebration With Gareth Edwards

Mar 27, 2015

SHARE THIS POST has announced that both Gareth Edwards director of Rogue One and Josh Trank will be apart of a discussion at the Star Wars Celebration 2015 in April, check out the press release below.

Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart and Pablo Hidalgo will be joined by directors Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank, who will share their experiences as the newest members of the Lucasfilm creative family. Learn how the teams came together and are collaborating to conceive and create the upcoming stand-alone films in the galaxy far, far away.

This cements Trank as a Star Wars director and should put the rumors to rest of his possible exit from the untitled project. A rumor that has been baseless and fuelled by a lot of misinformed people who have an axe to grind with Josh because of his Fantastic Four reboot.

I think a lot of people let their minds run-wild when behind the scenes rumors of troubled productions happen, even more so when they’re not supportive of said project. In the case of Josh Trank and Fantastic Four, I don’t think you can believe what the internet and random people on forums are claiming happened even more so when the information is second or third-hand accounts.

Have you seen this:

You only have to look at 20th Century Fox who recently announced Trank would be returning to direct it’s sequel Fantastic Four 2 which will likely be his next film. Not to mention Lucasfilm hiring him to direct one of their spin-off/standalone Star Wars films around the time these events were said to have taken place.

Hollywood is a small town and if it happened trust-me Disney and Lucasfilm would have been made aware of it for liability reasons, even more so when hundreds of millions of dollars are at-stake in the process.

These studios aren’t in the business of hiring violent and abusive directors, as they are liable for anything that happens on set, insurance purposes doesn’t allow these studios to mess-around and hire high-risk directors. They famously avoid actors and directors with histories of outbursts and substance problems. You only have to look at Mel Gibson, to get a sense why this Josh Trank rumor is likely in-fact totally bogus. Gibson, an Oscar winning director has a hard time getting work these days just imagine what would happen to someone like Trank if this was actually true.

Even someone with a notorious bad attitude like David O. Russell, has learned to play-ball on sets recently, because acting unions and crew unions really don’t tolerate abuse on set. Fans obviously don’t think about these consequences which could ruin their careers or that there are contracts and lawyers who get involved if these things actually happen.

Let’s also keep in mind the sources were mostly online and we didn’t hear a peep from rags like TMZ or other trashy outlets on the subject. Those places feed on these stories and if it was even a half-truth it would have been all over the place.

As I say with all things, just use common sense.
