We recently learned Johnny Depp would be leaving the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise due to legal issues and a continued battle against his ex Amber Heard. Depp was asked by WB to resign in the midst of a court ruling that deemed allegations he was a “wife beater” weren’t false. This means WB is quickly looking for a replacement as the film is currently in active production with Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne already filming.
It appears that search maybe over sooner rather than later as Deadline is reporting Mads Mikkelson is the top choice by the studio to replace Depp and is currently in talks to take over the role. If Mikkelsen lands the role he will be the third actor to play Grindelwald in the series.
We should get some official news soon as again the production is currently underway.
