The film leaves the original date of May 29, 2020, and will no longer compete with the second weekends of Universal’s ‘Fast & Furious 9’ and ‘The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge.’

Meanwhile, returning cast members include Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville. Also, the franchise newcomers are Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein, Harris Dickinson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Further, the director is Joachim Rønning (‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’), while the screenplay is from the first film’s writer Linda Woolverton (original ‘The Lion King’) and Micah Fitzerman-Blue & Noah Harpster (‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’).

Disney’s ‘Maleficent’ sequel will now go up against UAR’s ‘The Addams Family’ and Universal’s ‘The Hunt.’
