It looks like that Harley Quinn movie has finally been given a title and director. As The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Margot Robbie will reprise the role in David Ayer‘s Gotham City Sirens, featuring a lineup of all-female DC villains.
Ayer will direct and produce the project with Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the part-time girlfriend of the Joker who is currently DC’s most popular female character. Robbie is also executive producing.
Sirens was a recent comic series from DC that focused on the popular villainesses from Batman’s rogue gallery. Among them were Quinn, Catwoman, Batman’s sometime love interest, and Poison Ivy, who uses plants and their toxins to get what she wants.
Warner doesn’t have a release date for Sirens but the project is now on the fast-track.
We had heard that David Ayer was in talks for a Suicide Squad sequel and it looks like this project will tide him over until then as Gotham City Sirens sounds like a priority for the studio. There’s still chatter a sequel to Squad is still in development along with a Deadshot solo film, that’s been rumored for a while now.
There’s a great hope that WB will give Ayer more than six weeks to write the script this time and shape a real film. Luckily, they’ve tasked someone else with the scripting duties as Tomb Raider screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet is getting invovled.
It remains to be seen if the likes of Catwoman and Poison Ivy will be apart of the film, but it looks good so far.
