The classic English tale about Mary Queen of Scots has been made into many films and television shows in history. However, this most recent one has been in development hell for about 4 years. Now Variety is reporting that Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) has signed on to play Queen Elizabeth in the upcoming tale. She will co-star opposite Saoirse Ronan who has been linked to the role of Mary Stuart who tries to overthrow her cousin Queen Elizabeth the 1st.

While the site goes on to reveal while the movie hasn’t been officially green light but it’s expected to be very soon. However, we at Omega Underground revealed earlier this month via Twitter that production information on the film has already been revealed:

Which lines up with what Ronan revealed to Daily Mail UK back in December that production on the film is expected to begin this year:

“We’re filming Mary, Queen Of Scots next year . . . finally! I’ve been involved with the film for four years”

Josie Rourke is set to direct the film and will be her directorial debut.
