Marvel Developing a ‘New Warriors’ TV Series Featuring Squirrel Girl

Aug 31, 2016

Marvel Television the past year seemed to be losing it’s mass audience appeal. Granted their gritty Netflix shows have struck a cord with both critics and fans alike. However, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D had never been what fans expected it to be. The TV division even went onto cancel fan-favorite shows like Agent Carter after 2 seasons. As well as halting production of their Marvel’s Most Wanted TV Series that was being fast tracked by ABC. Now in the past several months Marvel announced several TV shows coming on various TV networks. They included Cloak & Dagger on Freeform and The Runaways on Hulu. Let’s not forget The Punisher is getting a Netflix series after his debut on Daredevil starring Jon Bernthal.

Today, TV Line announced that Marvel is hard at work on another teen superhero comedy series in the New Warriors. The site even goes onto reveal that fan-favorite but somewhat obscure character Squirrel Girl will be featured prominently in the new series.

“Described as the junior version of The Avengers. The New Warriors are a superhero squad made up of teenagers, one of whom would include Doreen Green (aka Squirrel Girl).”

Last month Pitch Perfect star and all around sweet heart Anna Kendrick was fan cast in the role if the character ever made it to the big screen. While the actress admitted she barley knows the character she was still down to be a superhero. It’s unlikely the actress would ever sign up for a television role but stranger things have happened…like a legitimate live-action superhero show based on a girl with squirrel powers. Oh wait.

No network has yet to pick up the show
