Last week we had gotten word that screen tests had begun for Marvel and Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger. MCU Exchange reported that former Disney Channel star Debby Ryan was mentioned as well as Noah Gray-Cabey being looked at for the roles. Debby Ryan even went onto like our news story on the rumor.
However, today Deadline announced that another former Disney channel star Olivia Holt; as well as newcomer Aubrey Joseph has been cast as Cloak & Dagger. This will mark the first Marvel and ABC series on their teen-orientated channel Freeform.
Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger follows the interracial romance between Tandy Bowen (Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Joseph), who come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart — but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb went on to talk about the casting of these young actors:
“Marvel is delighted to have found our “Cloak & Dagger,” Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles.”
Cloak and Dagger will debut exclusively on Freeform
