It looks like Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige will finally get rolling with finding a director for Brie Larson‘s Captain Marvel solo film according to an update from Variety’s Justin Kroll.
He recently tweeted that Marvel is expected a script treatment from screenwriter duo Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve soon, moving onto meetings with director candidates in the new year.

Some of the various talented names rumored or linked being in the mix include Niki Caro (our top pick currently), Lesli Linka Glatter, Lorene Scafaria, Rebecca Thomas, Jennifer Kent, Jennifer Yuh, Emily Carmichael, Elizabeth Woods, Ava DuVernay and maybe even Angelina Jolie.
There’s still one name we’d like to see added the candidates list and that’s Edge of Seventeen writer-director Kelly Fremon Craig. A new cinematic voice that can handle a sharp comedic tone and we’ve seen Marvel mentor rising talent with previous director selections.
The film has earned a Golden Globe nomination for it’s lead actress Hailee Steinfeld and could get some Oscar love in the coming months..

We’d also like to see former Wonder Woman director Michelle MacLaren (Westworld, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones) considered as well.
Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
