Marvel Working on AGENTS OF SHIELD Spin-Off For ABC

Apr 9, 2015

In a move that shouldn’t surprise many, Marvel is currently working on a new spin-off based on their ABC series, Agents of SHIELD. While the flagship show has been met with middling response from many during its first season run, the show has managed to grow into itself over the past two seasons. So much so, it has become the launching point for The Inhumans, while also setting up the events for Civil War.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news on the development of the new series, which will be overseen by Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and SHIELD writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost, Hawaii Five-0). While it’s currently unknown what the series will be setting up, the article goes on to state that events and story elements from the last half of the season will be building into this series, giving it a launch point.

The aim could be to launch the show midseason next year, much like Agent Carter did previously this year, helping bridge the gap between the two halves of season 2 of Agents of SHIELD. It’ll be interesting to see what the show is developing into, with many wondering if Dethlok and Bobbi, also known as Mockingbird, played by J. August Richards and Adrianne Palicki respectively, could be the face of this upcoming series.

It’ll probably become clearer as the season winds down, but I’m looking forward to seeing what Marvel has to offer with this spin-off. While Agents of SHIELD had a rough start, it has made up for itself in its storytelling ability over the last season, proving to be rich in what it has to offer to the MCU. Marvel is on fire, and the way the MCU continues to build is very exciting and fun.
