Deadline revealed that Into the Woods and Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall is Disney’s top choice to direct their upcoming live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid. Kick-Ass star Chloe Grace Moretz was signed on to play the title role of Ariel. However, she dropped out last year for personal reasons.
This will be yet another live-action adaption of a classic Disney film after Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book. As well as their upcoming slate of films which include Mulan and The Lion King. Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken will be compsing new music for The Little Mermaid as well.
