There’s only 6 days left in to Masquerada’s Kickstarter and it’s only 2/3rds towards it’s goal! If you’ve not heard of the game by Witching Hour studios then shame on you! This RPG is probably best summed up by it’s creative director, Ian Gregory, “Masquerada is an eastern take on a western RPG much like something like Avatar was a show with a western take on eastern ideas”.
But what’s the game really about? It plays out much like Dragon Age (or for our older readers, like Baldur’s Gate). Fight can either take place in real time and be played Diablo-style or you can pause the action at any time by hitting the spacebar and issuing commands to each of your party members.
The story takes place in a fleshed out world loosely based on Venetian culture where the rich have access to special masks which grant them magic powers. The main character is Cicero Gavar, a detective with a deeply haunted past. Originally banished for war crimes against the state, Cicero has been brought back from exile to solve the kidnapping of the diplomat Razitof Azrus.
Having interviewed Ian on several occasions, I can unequivocally vouch for his passion and enthusiasm for gaming and doubly so for Masquerada which is a crystallization of his love for DnD and classic Western RPG’s.
