Much like the demons that John Constantine finds himself battling, the character just won’t stay dead. After a one off, thirteen episode series, Constantine, which was a low rated fan favorite series on the Peacock Network, NBC, the series couldn’t seem to find a second life. Rumors persisted that NBC Universal’s Syfy Channel, or the CW Network owned by WB, could save the series, and give it a second life. But it wasn’t to be, but that didn’t stop the fans for hoping that Matt Ryan’s John Constantine could return for another go around.
Arrow star Stephen Amell flamed the flames on social media, as he showed support to the flailing NBC series, as they tried to find it a new home:

Even Arrow showrunner Mark Guggenheim backed this idea, saying “there’s a lot of desire on everyone’s part” to bring John to Arrow‘s DC universe. But he then admitted there would be hurdles to jump: “It would be wonderful and we certainly have a million ideas — it’s hard for me to say mainly because A: it’s not my decision to make and B: with ‘Constantine’ being shopped around to other networks… it’s really hard to make plans when a show’s kind of in limbo.”
Sadly, not long after, the show was officially shown the axe, and the hopes for Matt Ryan continuing in the role dropped, and fans faced the tough truth that Matt Ryan, and his take on the character, were going to stay dead.
But fear not, Constantine fans! All your hope and perseverance has paid off, as Matt Ryan’s John Constantine is coming to Arrow this season for one off episode. The news was announced today during the CW’s Television Critic Association press tour today.
Constantine star Matt Ryan was quick to confirm the news on his twitter following the announcement:

Stephen Amell was also quick to welcome the Demon Hunter to Star City:
Hey @mattryanreal… Welcome to Arrow!!!

The CW’s President, Mark Pedowitz, had this to say about Matt joining the series:
“[‘Constantine’] is no longer on the air and luckily, one of our parent companies Warner Bros. is the production company on ‘Arrow’ … it’s a great one-shot episode. Constantine” was cancelled by NBC in May after a 13-episode run, with fans rallying to save the show via a social media campaign. While the series was initially shopped around to other networks, it seems the Vertigo hero was a better fit for the gritty world of “Arrow.”
While it’s a bummer that this is only a one off stint for now, but this is definitely exciting, and here’s hoping they find a way to make Matt Ryan’s Constantine a series guest star down the line, or at least a reoccurring character. We live in such exciting times, where properties that die, or have been laying dormant for some time, find new life. As long as there’s a following, it seems there’s always going be a way for stuff to stay alive.
Are you excited to see Matt Ryan’s Constantine joining Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow on Arrow this season?
