Matthew Vaughn Wants To Direct ‘Star Wars’ And ‘Indiana Jones’ Films

Feb 12, 2015

During an interview with Comic Book, Kingsman writer-director Matthew Vaughn talked about the possibility of directing future Star Wars and Indiana Jones films which he’s “very interested” in.

“[Kingsman: The Secret Service writer Mark Millar] and I fell in love with movies at the same time. We’re the same age so we both saw Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, you know? Raider of the Lost Ark. And then in the 80s we were watching the same videos three or four times a day. We grew up in that style of filmmaking and what we’re doing is recreating that in a modern manner. If someone offered me Star Wars or Indiana Jones I would be very interested. When you’re the director, you just don’t know. Something clicks and you go, ‘Yup, I wanna go make that story,’ so never say, ‘never,’ to anything but right now I’m in the world of Kingsman so it’s really hard to think about anything else.”

Vaughn hasn’t announced his next film so it’s quite possible he could look to Lucasfilm for his next project.

You might remember that Vaughn’s name popped-up as candidate to direct Episode VII and even made a pitch to Lucasfilm with Chloe Mortez attached as his lead. That didn’t seem to workout but I’m sure the studio would love to work with him in the future.

We know that Rian Johnson is currently prepping the script for Episode VIII with directors Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank making their own standalone films. It’s possible in the future we could see Vaughn get involved in the Star Wars universe.

When it comes to Indiana Jones the recent talk is they are indeed moving forward with a reboot having actors such as Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper and Chris Hemsworth in mind to replace Harrison Ford.

At the moment we don’t have either a writer or director attached for the project, but hearing Vaughn’s interest in the material it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to see him play around in that sandbox considering he gave new energy to the X-Men franchise and he could do the same for Indy.

Kingsman opens this weekend in most cinemas.
