NBC’s ‘Constantine’ Gets The Axe, FOX’s ‘Lucifer’ Picks Up Steam

May 9, 2015

Today, came a double dose of DC Comic’s TV news. NBC officially announced that they will not be renewing Constantine starring Matt Ryan for a second season. This has been met with great disappointment by hardcore fans who have made the show’s 1 season run and instant cult classic following DC and Vertigo Comics Hellblazzer comic almost perfectly. But interestingly enough even though the show has gotten the chop at NBC the show is currently being shopped around thanks to the fan support. Normally once a show gets cancelled that’s literally the end of the show but there have been rumors that the show may just switch networks. Some have mentioned SyFy several months ago and now even Netflix in recent days.

Star Stephen Amell from The CW’s Arrow has taken to Twitter to show his support for fellow DC Comics show and even went onto say he would cameo in the second season as The Arrow if Constantine gets picked up by another network.

Now over at FOX they have debuted the very first image from their upcoming Vertigo/DC Comics show Lucifer from the pages of The Sandman. It has Tom Ellis in the lead as a suave playboy but secretly he was the Lord of Hell Lucifer who has resigned from the throne. Now imagine if FOX picked up Constantine which would be a great back-to-back one-two punch if Lucifer and Constantine played the same night! The crossovers would be pretty impressive as well…

Lucifer

Here is the plot synopsis for the show:

The series stars Tom Ellis (Rush) in the title role as Lucifer, who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals. Co-starring alongside Ellis are Lauren German (Chicago Fire) as Chloe Dancer, an LAPD homicide detective who finds herself both repulsed and fascinated by Lucifer; Lesley-Ann Brandt (Spartacus) as Lucifer’s best friend Maze, a fierce demon who takes the form of a human woman; Nicholas Gonzalez (Sleepy Hollow) as Dan, an LAPD homicide detective wary of Lucifer; D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, an angel sent to L.A. to persuade Lucifer to return to hell; and Rachael Harris as Linda, Lucifer’s therapist.
