Neill Blomkamp To Direct New ‘RoboCop’ Film For MGM – Might Be A Sequel To Original
It looks that new RoboCop movie might happen after all.
Deadline reports that MGM has hired District 9 director Neill Blomkamp to direct and Terminator 6 screenwriter Justin Rhodes to rewrite an existing script to a new RoboCop film titled RoboCop Returns, that could end up a sequel to the original 1987 film from Paul Verhoeven.
It doesn’t sound like the film will be a sequel to the PG-13 reboot starring Joel Kinnaman. Which might mean it’s social satire and graphic violence may return as the script was written by franchise creators Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, who penned the original film.
It’s not Alien 5, but it’s a good substitute.
Blomkmamp is set to direct Chris Evans next in his film Greenland which we’ve reported will shoot October-November in Toronto and possibly NYC. That film is expected to be release sometime in 2019.
MGM has yet to give the film a release date.
