We were a bit curious why Jessica Jones was given more promotion during Marvel’s Netflix panel at Comic-Con, when they showed teasers from a bunch of their upcoming lineup including a teaser for the third season of Daredevil.
IGN spoke with Netflix head Ted Sarandos about the company’s upcoming Marvel schedule at the Television Critics Association. Giving some insight on increasing the productions to give us more than two shows a year, since they’ll likely not to wait too long to release things like The Punisher and other new shows.
“I doubt that we could produce at the quality that they produce at that speed. But we’re gonna try to make them quicker so we can get less downtime between them.”
While it seems unlikely that The Punisher will have a massive role in The Defenders, Ted hints there could be announcement concerning the character. It remains to be seen if the Punisher has a cameo, or will be busy with his own solo series.
When asked if the “whole cast” means The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) will appear in the series, he replied “Uh… stay tuned.” While this doesn’t definitively confirm The Punisher will appear in The Defenders, Sarandos’ comment makes it sound very likely the character introduced in Daredevil season 2 could be involved in the upcoming series.
It also sounds like Jessica Jones season two and Daredevil season three are coming in 2018, I’ll be curious to see if the Punisher also joins that 2018 release lineup.
As for what Netflix has locked down for the future of its Marvel plans, Sarandos said the company has “Luke Cage upcoming and then Iron Fist and then Defenders, and then we’ll start slotting the second and third seasons of the shows that are upcoming,” but they “haven’t gone beyond that yet.”
