Netflix is looking to adapt the Dark Horse Comics comic book The Umbrella Academy into a live-action series. Deadline has previously reported that the Netflix series has a 10-episode order with Fargo’s Steve Blackman tapped as showrunner and producer.
The Umbrella Academy follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes called the Umbrella Academy — the Monocle, Spaceboy, the Kraken, the Rumor, the Séance, Number Five, the Horror and the White Violin — as they work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities. Published by Dark Horse Comics, the comic series garnered praise from fans and critics for its alternate and twisted take on the superhero genre.
Omega Underground has confirmed from four separate local production sources that The Umbrella Academy series will shoot in Toronto beginning on January 15th and will wrap on July 11th.
Netflix has yet to announce a cast or release date for the comic book series.
