‘New Mutants’ Casting Call Teasing Warlock Is Motion Capture?

Jun 13, 2017

Ever since New Mutants (Growing Pains) director Josh Boone confirmed that alien X-Men member Warlock would making his debut in the film we’ve been curious if they’d be going practical or motion capture with his role.

A new casting call spotted by Omega Underground seemingly suggests they could be hiring an actor to film the motion capture for Warlock and getting another actor to voice him. Not unlike they did for Colossus on Deadpool.

SKINNY MAN – Male, 20’s – 60’s; Caucasian, must be over 6’9″, extremely tall and skinny. We are looking for someone who is very good with movement. This is a featured principal role with no dialogue.

This could be the first sign of confirmation the character will indeed be done via motion capture and not a mix of practical and CGI. They’ll likely get an unknown for the capturing and then a possible established name to become the character’s voice. The Phalanx alien is often depicted as being rather tall and skinny, it’s been assumed that he would be a CGI character.

A recent extras casting call we posted also gave us Phalanx vibes.

Josh Boone will be directing the film which is said to be more horror focused. His cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Henry Zaga, Rosario Dawson, and Blu Hunt.

New Mutants is set for release on April 13th, 2018.
