Nightwing #79
DC Comics

Written by: Tom Taylor

Letters by: Wes Abbott

There’s no question Bruce Wayne can impact Gotham in a way Batman can’t. Of course, the inverse can be said about the legendary DC character, or any other character in comics who also has a ton of money at his or her disposal.

But what if Batman set aside the cape and cowl to just focus on the work he could do as Bruce Wayne? We all know he’d never do that, but Dick Grayson seems interested in entertaining the idea now that he’s been given some serious funds.

However, as Tom Taylor guides him through this time in his life, it seems Dick will find out both the billionaire and the hero should exist. Because Dick is clearly believes if one has the means to impact the lives of others, they should. Well, Nightwing and Dick Grayson can, but in different ways.

For those still rattled by the Ric Grayson run or those curious about what’s going on with Nightwing, Taylor’s run has only just begun. So far, he’s met expectations, along with Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas and Wes Abbott.

(WARNING: Spoiler ahead for Nightwing #79.)

Fair warning: there’s definitely some wishful thinking behind what I’m about to say.

Nightwing’s opening monologue about having someone to catch him ends with a focus on a pretty important figure in Dick’s life — someone he’s come close to tying the knot with in the past.

As strange as it may sound, something tells me Taylor might be the one to finally bring Barbara Gordon and Dick together for good. It’s early, I know. But with the perspective he has after everything he’s been through, now seems like as good a time as any for Nightwing to do something that’s long overdue.

Why not have Tom Taylor — a writer known for killing characters off — be the one to help these two lovebirds fully commit to one another.
