Nita Hawes’ Nightmare Blog #1

Everyone should know by now, Killadelphia is a must-read series. There’s a reason it was nominated for an Eisner. And I understand it’s early, but I may like Nita Hawes’ Nightmare Blog more than Killadelphia.

Now, I did get a look at Nita Hawes’ Nightmare Blog beyond the first issue. But my excitement for Rodney Barnes’ new series began with this issue. Readers get the connection to Killadelphia right away, and Barnes explains through Nita the plan with this story. This series is going to deal with different monsters from the ones featured in Killadelphia, which means this series is going to deal with different issues.

At the center of things is a strong woman in Nita, who’s developed her toughness through in the aftermath of very traumatic life experiences. And she’s going to need every bit of her strength moving forward. Things are going to get messy, to say the least.

While Jason Shawn Alexander is involved in this series, Patric Reynolds is the first issue’s artist. (Well-Bee takes over next issue.) Reynolds certainly has his own style, but his lines combined with Luis NCT’s give this story a very similar vibe to Killadelphia.

Nita Hawes’ Nightmare Blog #1 sets the table well for a series that has an endless amount of potential, created by a team that knows a thing or two about indie horror books.
