Nov 4, 2016

We’ve been looking forward to both directorial and casting news concerning Disney’s live-action version of Mulan and we have a couple updates concerning the production.

A potential open casting-call from Debra Zane Casting has been making the rounds on Twitter, revealing what Disney is looking for the roles of Mulan and Chen along with character descriptions.

This would finally confirm that the studio is indeed looking at hiring young Chinese actors, as they must be able to speak fluent English and Mandarin. It also reveals plans to shoot mostly in China, we assume it could take place at the brand new Pinewood stages in Beijing as Disney has a longstanding partnership with the company.

It also claims pre-production/production will take place between April and October of next year, leading us to believe production could start in May.

Mulan is set for release on November 2nd, 2018 as Disney is still on the hunt for an Asian director to tackle the film.
