However, that might have been just a funny line as Josh Brolin was announced today as Cable. Dolph officially attached himself to another big comic book film due out next year with James Wan’s Aquaman as announced by The Hollywood Reporter.

Lundgren will play King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel, who claims Mera as his own and wants to kill Aquaman.

The Swedish actor is no stranger to genre roles as his first starring role was in the He-Man film The Masters of The Universe and was the first actor to take on the Marvel anti-hero role of Frank Castle aka The Punisher. He recently had a bit a career revival thanks in part to his roles in the Expendables films.

Dolph will join Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Willem Dafoe is playing Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is classic villain Black Manta, and Temuera Morrison is Aquaman’s father.

Omega Underground had previously reported that Aquaman was looking towards a production start on May 22nd, in the Gold Coast of Australia. THR is backing us up on this starting date, despite assumptions made during CinemaCon of production beginning this month.

Aquaman is set for a release on December 21, 2018.
