Blumhouse has taken over the horror genre with films like Get Out and Insidious. Now it looks like they are going to take on one of the classics of cinema horror and they are bringing in an original scream queen to do it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter and Blumhouse’s Twitter feed, Jamie Lee Curtis is officially returning to the Halloween franchise of films for the next iteration of the killing spree of Michael Meyers. John Carpenter, director of the original 1978 film will produce the film which will be written by David Gordon Green and comedian Danny McBride, with Gordon Green directing.

David Gordon Green is the co-creator of the HBO hit series Eastbound and Down starring McBride and was the director of Pineapple Express and the recent release Our Brand is Crisis. Carpenter said of the new film, “David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and … WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away,”  he said. High praise from the master himself.

Curtis originated the role of Laurie Strode in the original film and played her again in Halloween II, Halloween H2O: 20 Years Later and Halloween: Resurrection.

The new Halloween film is set to be released in theaters October 19, 2018.
