Hollywood Reporter has learned that British character actor Benedict Wong (Prometheus, The Martian, Sunshine, Marco Polo) has landed the role of Wong in Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
Wong, is Strange’s man-servant, confidant, roommate, bodyguard, and friend. He’ll also be one of the first major male Asian supporting leads in the Marvel cinematic universe. We can only hope Marvel will eventually give us a Asian leading hero in the upcoming future.

Back in June, I actually had suggested this casting due to a enjoyment of Wong’s work in the Netflix series Marco Polo, which showed-off his acting and stunt skills. I took to Twitter with the idea and it got a retweet from Wong, hopefully it helped spark his interest in the role.
When British martial artist Scott Adkins was cast there had been some speculation that the Wong role could be getting a bit of a whitewash, with Scott in the role. That doesn’t seem to be the case and now even more it seems like Adkins’ role is a big mystery. There are multiple Asian locations in the film, which would have made it odd not to have an Asian cast.
Doctor Strange is still shooting with a November release date.
