‘Pacific Rim 2’: Charlie Hunnam Isn’t Returning For The Sequel

Jul 26, 2016

The Pacific Rim sequel has been stop start (putting it nicely), with various issues contributing to the films delay getting off the ground. Now with things finally moving forward, with a new director in Steven S. DeKnight and the cast coming together with new additions in John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Scott Eastwood (Fast 8). There’s been another bit of bad news, Charlie Hunnam won’t be returning for Pacific Rim 2.

Speaking with Yahoo! Movies at San Diego Comic-Con whilst promoting his upcoming movie King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Hunnam confirmed he wouldn’t be returning to play Raleigh Beckett due to scheduling. He did share his enthusiasm for the sequel, saying  “I’m very excited about it. I’m glad they’re making it.

There had been speculation Hunnam wouldn’t return, and with it now confirmed, questions will start to be asked about his former co-stars participation in the sequel, particularly Rinko Kikuchi, who was one of the highlights of the original. The same can be said about Charlie Day’s Newt and Ron Perlman Hannibal Chau, two of the more interesting characters in the film. Will the sequel actually turn out to be a rebootquel?

Pacific Rim 2 is scheduled to hit screens February 23, 2018.
