Paramount Hires Writers For ‘Star Trek 4’ and Chris Hemsworth’s Return Confirmed

Jul 18, 2016

Star Trek 4 is ramping up development as Deadline reports that Paramount has already tasked writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay to pen the film’s script. The pair previously did uncredited work on Star Trek Beyond‘s script.

Along with further confirmation that time-travel will play a large role with Chris Hemsworth reprising the part of Captain Kirk’s father George.

The plot for the new pic: Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father. Chris Hemsworth, who appeared in the 2009 reboot Star Trek, will return to play George Kirk.

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the screenplay. J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will produce through Bad Robot. David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance will executive produce.

No release date or director set yet for this. Justin Lin is helming Star Trek Beyond, which was penned by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have previously signed on for the fourth installment, there’s no word if Justin Lin will be return to direct or if the director will be J.J. Abrams.
