Paramount Rebooting Edgier ‘Green Hornet’; ‘The Accountant’s Gavin O’Connor To Direct

Today, Deadline revealed that Paramount Pictures along with Chernin Entertainment have acquired the film rights for The Green Hornet. The classic 1960’s vigilante TV Series once starred Van Williams as Green Hornet and Bruce Lee has his martial arts driver Kato. The series was rebooted once before in the failed 2011 film when comedian Seth Rogen took up the mantle of Green Hornet and Jay Chou as Kato. However, according to the recent report this will be a new edgier version of the character. Currently The Accountant director Gavin O’Connor is set to direct the film with Sean O’Keefe penning the script.

In the 1960’s The Green Hornet even went onto crossover with Adam West’s Batman series. in 1974 a Green Hornet movie was released with edited footage. This eventually led to the two characters crossing over in the comics as well in Batman 66′ Meets The Green Hornet #1.

A Bruce Lee biopic titled Birth of the Dragon is on the way with Philip Ng set to star as young Bruce Lee as he battled Wong Jack Man in an underground fight. The film is starting to generate some buzz at several film festivals. It would be great to get Phillip Ng to also play Kato in the upcoming Green Hornet reboot.
