‘Phantom Thread’ and ‘Ex Machina’ Art Director Denis Schnegg Working On ‘Girl In The Spider’s Web’

Mar 7, 2018

While production is in full-swing on Sony’s The Girl In The Spider’s Web, we’ve learned that the European-set thriller has Denis Schnegg working as the film’s supervising art director.

The film is expected to be a soft-reboot of sorts and its production team does seem to give the impression Sony wants the film to attempt to mimic the slick visuals of David Fincher‘s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, despite removing everyone involved with that film.

Schnegg is best known for his stunning work on films like Phantom Thread, Ex Machina, Annihilation, Never Let Me Go, 28 Weeks Later, Sunshine, and 28 Days Later.

Here’s a sample of Denis’ body of work.

Other crew members we’ve previously revealed include cinematographer Pedro Luque (Jacob’s Ladder Remake, Don’t Breathe), veteran production designer Eve Stewart (The King’s Speech, The Danish Girl, Les Misérables), along with costume designers Carlos Rosario (Don’t Breath) and Nancy Steiner (Killing of A Sacred Deer, Lost In Translation, Twin Peaks, The Account).

Filming began back in January with locations that include Berlin, Germany and Stockholm, Sweden.

Director Fede Alvarez‘s new cast includes Claire Foy (The Crown) replacing Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander, Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason replacing Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist, Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Cameron Britton (Mindhunter), Stephen Merchant (Logan),  Lakieth Standfield (Get Out), and Claes Bang (The Square) will play the film’s villain.

Sony has slated the film for a release date of November 9th, 2018.
