Tom Rothman just announced at CinemaCon 2015, that Phil Lord and Chris Miller will develop an animated Spider-Man movie for Sony. The pair are also said to be developing a Flash script for Warner Bros. We’ve been hearing about an animated Spidey movie from Lord/Miller since last year when leaked emails pointed it to be one of three potential Spider-Man film projects Sony was considering them for, which included Amazing Spider-Man 3 and even the current reboot that Drew Goddard is looking as the frontrunner for.
The pair previously made Cloudy with A Change of Meatballs and The Lego Movie, along with producing a slew of other Lego movies for Warner Bros. including the Lego Batman film. They’ll be writing it’s treatment but there’s currently no deal in place for them to direct.
It’s release date has been revealed for July 20th, 2018 and will likely take the place of a second live-action Spider-Man film, I assume the sequel might not be ready until 2019 at the earliest.
Thank to SlashFilm for catching the announcement first-hand.
