Geek.com is at it again as they have seemingly uncovered who will be tormenting Thor and crew in Thor: Ragnarok. The site claims to have a solid source that says Hela, ruler of Hel and Niflheim will be the big bad in Thor: Ragnorak. This rumor seems to line of with another one in which Cate Blanchett is circling the role or has already been cast as the film’s villain. If this all turns out to be true it really seems Marvel is stepping up their game in terms of the talent they are bringing to their projects. First Cumberbatch and Swinton, then Ryan Coogler and now Cate Blanchett. It appears Marvel is no longer afraid to open that check book.

While we now seem to know the villain of the film we know little else about Thor: Ragnarok as director Taika Waititi an Marvel don’t appear to be following the comic of the same name (no shocker there). In the comic book story-line “Ragnarok” Loki and the Fire Demon Surtur team up to attack Asgard causing Armageddon. Obviously if they are casting Blanchett as Hela we can assume that we won’t be seeing Loki and Surtur bringing the end of the world to Asgard. Instead I bet we get another tale involving Infinity Stones, Space and of Loki (now ruler of Asgard).  Let’s also not forget that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is set to return in Thor: Ragnarok so maybe we can expect a throw down fight between him and Surtur at some point.

Let’s get back to Blanchett who is perfectly suited to play a villain like Hela. With her sophisticated look, piercing eyes and wide acting range I think she will really bring this villain to life. And if the details provide by Geek.com are any indication see maybe Thor’s greatest adversary yet.

“In Thor: Ragnarok, Hela and Loki will have set their plan well in motion by the time Thor gets wise to what’s going on. Hela ends up creating the incident to Thor’s journey in the film. According to our sources, when Thor confronts Hela, things do not go well. Not only does she banish Thor from Asgard, but she destroys Mjolnir!” -Geek.com

At an early age I knew I loved two things more than anything else Comic Books and Video Games and no matter how hard my parents tried they couldn't keep me away from the capes and pixels. Now that I have a wife and child of my own I can't wait to share these vast worlds and experiences with them and hopefully you! With GWW I created and become editor of the comics section, which has now become the websites most popular area and features daily post with unique Comic editorials, reviews and previews. Along with Will Elizondo we started the GWW Capes Crew podcast. A weekly show dedicated to to all things Comics, Superheros and Sequential Art. After a year of creating content for GWW I was made its Editor in Chief. I love everything I do and can't think of a better way to spend my time than to spread every form of geekery to every corner of the globe. Comics will all be my passion though and were my heart lies.
