The Hollywood Reporter has word that Rosario Dawson has exited Josh Boone’s New Mutants and will be replaced with Brazilian actress Alice Braga. This switch-up taking place before production is set to begin in Boston next month.
Alice Braga is no stranger to sci-fi action films as her credits include I Am Legend, Repo Men, and Fox’s own Predators. She was first thrown into the international spotlight with the epic Brazilian crime epic City of God.
Omega Underground is under the impression her departure likely has more to do with Dawson’s commitments to Netflix/Marvel Television shows Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. The latter series has her character Claire being setup as a possible female love interest/female lead for Luke in the second season.
Both shows conflict directly with the summer shooting schedule of New Mutants.
New Mutants is still set for release on April 13th, 2018.
