Set in 1970s L.A., the story follows muscle for hire Jackson Healy (Crowe), and struggling private eye Holland March (Gosling), whose paths cross when a porn star commits suicide, only for the girl’s aunt to come to them believing she’s still alive, which eventually turns into a conspiracy involving air pollution and the automobile industry.
The trailer seemingly sees the film set in a world very familiar to us, almost a mix of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang meets The Big Lebowski and Inherent Vice. I’ll be curious how noir versus comedy the project actually is, as it seemingly has more of a tongue-and-cheek bend to it.
The Nice Guys opens May 20th, 2016.
