Reports Suggest Disney In Talks To Buy Fox – Will The X-Men Head to MCU?

Nov 6, 2017

In a recent report by CNBC, they claim from sources that Disney has met with Fox to talk about a sale which would include most if their companies including 20th Century Fox.

UPDATE: Ben Fritz of the Wall Street Journal has also chimed-in, stating talks have ended. But is also optimistic they could be resumed in the future. Basically, don’t get your hopes up.

Disney also happens to own Lucasfilm, Pixar, and Marvel Studios. There is a chance the Marvel rights held by Fox could revert back to Marvel depending on the legality and contracts involved in the purposed sale. The X-Men, Silver Surfer, and Fantastic Four rights are something that Disney has been trying to get back through lawyers since their original buy-out of Marvel.

While Sony has been recently open to rights leasing concerning Spider-Man, Fox has been less interested in playing ball.

Again, we don’t even know if the sale will go through but there is a window for these Marvel characters to return home. But it’s still a big maybe at this point.

Fox currently has New Mutants, Deadpool 2, and Dark Phoenix coming out next year. Other Marvel films in development include Gambit, X-Force, Deadpool 3, Doctor Doom, and spinoff focusing on X-23.

Another reason this could be tempting for Disney is the rights to Avatar, as they recently opened a theme park dedicated to the film. These films are pricey and with four sequels ready to go, Disney could fork-out the cash to keep grinding them out and adding to their attractions in the process.
